Hunting down THE perfect mascara is just as difficult as searching for the perfect face foundation AND shampoo! After all, how perfect is perfect, considering we age from time to time and the “understanding” weather we have in the tropics. … Continue reading
For those who may not know, lacquer means polish. When you get a nail polish, you may notice the words “nail lacquer” on the label at the bottle, and we all know how a lot of nail lacquers smell like. Paint! These days, many cosmetic brands have lip lacquers, which are meant to be applied on the lips. Paint on the lips, you say? Well, today I am going to show you my only lip lacquer from Shiseido, in RD413 Sanguine.
I picked Sanguine simply because I am a fan of anything coral and orange-red. The shade in Sanguine actually indicates a blood-red, and I was afraid I might look too vampy if the red is too dark on me. Thank God, it leans more neutral on me, and it turns out to be so wearable for the day.
Also, this one stays on me for more than 4 hours (with very minor fading), yet it does not feel as though it is sitting on top of the lips. Upon initial application, the colour is very glossy on the lips, but as the time goes by, the glossiness will fade. It fades evenly to look as if I am wearing a lipstick.
Formula-wise, I have no complains as I love this lacquer rouge from Shiseido. Really, thumbs up for making this lip paint not drying on my lips at all, especially after few hours when I need to wipe it off before I consume my food. Some readers of mine should have known that I have dry, chapped lips and that I could not survive without a nourishing lip balm. This lacquer rouge is not sticky like a lip gloss, but rather balm-y, instead. Really, the lightweight and black packaging that holds the colour is quite impressive because it has a lot of pigmentation where I can wear it sheer or thicker for more coverage.
I regretted for not trying this out earlier when Shiseido launched its Lacquer Rouge. There was no scent similar to paint when I use this. However, it did have a really light scent of a mint leave, which did not linger when I applied it on my lips.
I paid RM95 for Sanguine, and I know this will not be my only lacquer rouge from Shiseido. Have you tried Shiseido lacquer rouge already? If not, you really should!
Chinese New Year is just two sleeps away, and I will be a busy bee during this festive season! Since I will not be posting anything here for a week (yes, I’m honest enough to tell you, but do keep reading and keep the comments coming!), I thought I want to share with you my very 1st empties of the Horse year! Yup, let’s go galloping to each review after the pictures, shall we?
Aesop Purifying Cream Cleanser 125ml
I LOVE anything Aesop. There I said it. Give me any of its products, and I will love you, too. This cream cleanser from Aesop was not my first product from Aesop, but this is one I will ALWAYS repurchase. Previously packaged in a jar, it has now been transformed into a tube that is much more hygienic and light. I love using a cream cleanser as the first step of cleansing during the evening when I only use LIGHT makeup. I use this cream cleanser like I would with a cleansing oil; apply the cream on dry face with dry fingers, then massage, add some water and massage again.
That being said, I would sometimes use this purifying cream cleanser in the morning as it does not strip the moisture from my face like some cleansing foams do. Also, my nose love to “pick up” its scent in the morning, and I start my day feeling all happy. A happy nose makes a happy person! Just so you know that most items from Aesop smells like herbs, this cream cleanser has that scent YET very soothing. When I started using this, I thought the scent was overpowering, but then I grew to like the smell as I used it more often. Combination, dry and sensitive skin will benefit from this gentle cream cleanser as this one leaves the skin feeling clean, hydrated and velvety soft after use.
Decleor Experience de L’Age Eye and Lip Cream 15ml
This cream is designed to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles around eyes and lips for mature type, so my initial guess was this might work for me since I am slightly “younger”. I did not use this eye and lip cream around my lip area, but since this is not a lightweight cream, I only used this at night. Although I do not need to massage too long for it to absorb, I found out that no matter how long I massage, I still get a slight greasiness at the eye area. Since I had another eye cream that is lighter and matte, I did not use this cream during the day. However, I must confess that my fine lines were significantly reduced when I used this every night.
Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream 10ml
Claimed to be a potent cream blend of anti-oxidants for all skin types, I was surprised when this rich cream absorbed easily around the eye area. This eye cream that contains Vitamins C & E to offer exceptional hydration leaves no sign of greasiness at all; however, since it is so easily absorbed, I could not massage around my eye area for some circulation. It is said to work best with its eye serum, which I sampled and found that very true, so I chose to use this alone in the morning instead.
This potent eye cream did not give me milia seeds around the eye area nor did this make me itch. My dark circles appeared to be slightly lighter after using this, but the fine lines were there to stay. In the future, I will have to get both eye serum and eye cream to get the best results, and although the thought alone is painful for my bank account, I WILL HAVE TO DO IT FOR THE SAKE OF BEAUTY. Oh, did I mention that this eye cream smells heavenly, too? I felt like putting this on my entire face EVERY TIME I used the eye cream. I love the scent and the ingredients so much that I just have to share it with you!

Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF50+ 50ml
I have declared my love for this sunscreen in this post. It is not funny to indulge on a sunscreen EVERY month that costs RM 130. I am not sure about you, but I definitely feel the pain every time I need to buy a new one every month. I need to constantly remind myself not to pamper my body too much by applying this, but a rather cheaper one I could get from drugstores or pharmacies.
Shiseido The Skincare Instant Eye & Lip Makeup Remover 125ml
I was introduced to this when a kind SA from Shiseido gave me this when I purchased its sunblock. I was hooked by its unscented formula. It removes waterproof makeup (mascaras and lip stains) easily without stinging sensation. In short, it is gentle, yet effective. I like that it came in a squeezable bottle, so I don’t get messy spills when I sometimes poured out too hastily.
LUSH It’s Raining Men (Honey) Shower Gel 250g
If I could dip myself in a pool of honey, I would. I really don’t mind its sugary taste and scent, but the ants and bears would come after me when I’m on the land then. Fortunately though, this honey shower gel does not have overpowering, nauseating sweet mix of toffee, sweet orange, bergamot oils and lotus flowers.
While this shower gel cleanses well and does not leave my skin sticky, it is NOT particularly moisturizing on the skin. I do wish someday, all the shower gels from Lush would be free from foaming agent Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), which is known to be contaminated by a carcinogen called 1,4-dioxine that may lead to cancer. I am glad that Lush does NOT test on animals, but if it is 100% natural, all the better!
While writing this post, I just realized I had NEVER used up any of my makeup! I hope in the coming months, I would find some that are worth using till the end of their life. Hehe! Have you used any of the products mentioned above? Let me know how you find them! Anyway, allow me to wish all who are celebrating the festive season a “Happier Chinese New Year” and may all your troubles gallop away from worrying you always!
I envy the younger generation these days; I really do. Thanks to the advance technology, the Internet and the constant advice from people around us, the “younger” ones must have heard the Hymns of Sunscreen countless times already – you guys are so lucky! Whether you are living in a hot tropical country like Malaysia or living anywhere else around the globe, you need to use sunscreen EVERYDAY. Using sunscreen can prevent premature aging, sunburns, age spots and skin cancer.
Depending on your lifestyle, preference on the texture or tint (colour) and budget, there is always ONE that suits your need to be and to feel protected. Normal to dry skin types can benefit from using lotion or cream-based sunscreen whereas those with oily skin type can choose from gel, lotion, or even powder type for your sunscreen.
I have dehydrated skin, so searching for a sunscreen that does not hug onto the dry patches is not easy. When I was as young as 10, mom bought me all sorts of different textures for my face and told me to apply on my face (too bad, we totally ignored the body). I never understood the necessity of applying sunscreen and hated the strong scent of alcohol in it. Many years later when I earned my first pay cheque, I gathered my courage to spend my moolah on some skincare products at Clarins.
An SA from Shiseido noticed me nearby and handed me a small tube of its sunscreen. I was delighted as I thought I had won a lottery to be given a sunscreen, how innocent! The very next morning, I applied the sunscreen, and I never turned back. I was hooked, and I have used bottles and tubes of sunscreen from Shiseido after that. If any of you would like to get a good sunscreen, head over to Shiseido; they make the best sunscreen, I tell you! (Errr…I may have exaggerated a little bit as I don’t quite like its Urban Environment UV Protector Extra Mild SPF 30.)
The sunscreen I have now from Shiseido is the one RAVED by many, named Perfect UV Protector SPF50+ with a PA rating of triple plus. This has a light lotion texture, and I will need to shake it to mix the content of water and lotion in the plastic bottle. Although the bottle stated that it is very water-resistant, I take it with a pinch of salt. I believe that reapplication of sunscreen after few hours is BEST to get most of its efficiency because water and sweat will dissolve any sunscreen that you have applied on your skin.
This runny textured sunscreen comes off with a VERY slight pinkish tint and a light alcohol scent, which is bearable as the scent does not linger for long. The pinkish tint gives me just a slight brightened complexion, and the light texture makes it easy to me to apply because it spreads evenly. Another good point to be noted is that this sunscreen dries relatively quickly, and I like the fact that I do not need to wait for the sunscreen lotion to be absorbed. The finish of this sunscreen is matte but NOT papery dry (Sunplay, I am looking at you).
Why do I continue purchasing this Perfect UV Protector? Simply because this sunscreen does NOT give me a warm, burning feeling on my skin as quickly as other brands’, and this sunscreen also does not hug onto the dry patches on my dehydrated face. LOVE! The second reason alone makes my skin all ready for a smoother makeup base application. At times, I could even apply some of my liquid foundation (tried it with Chanel, Dior, and YSL) sans makeup base or primer because this sunscreen is good enough to be used as a base for my face!
This sunscreen is RM130 for 50ml, and I usually will repurchase every two months if I only apply it on my face everyday. Well, I have to admit that I do not use this sunscreen on my body. Instead, I use a cheaper alternative for my body, or else I might end up buying bottles of this sunscreen every month!
Have you used the Perfect UV Protector from Shiseido? Do you have any sunscreen that you actually like?
